Ideas worth hearing

One Voice Can Open a Much Bigger Conversation.

Think City’s Speaker Series brings informed voices and community members together to explore important public issues through accessible presentations, questions and constructive conversation.

Speaker-led events can introduce new perspectives, make complex subjects easier to approach and give people a starting point for deeper civic learning.

Why speaker-led conversations?

Sometimes Understanding Begins by Hearing How Someone Else Sees the Issue.

A strong speaker can provide context, experience and perspective that helps an audience see a public question more clearly. The conversation becomes even more valuable when participants can listen critically, ask questions and consider what they have heard.

01

Hear an Informed Voice

Begin with expertise, lived experience or informed perspective that brings useful context to an important public issue.

02

Ask Better Questions

Use the presentation as a starting point for questions, clarification and deeper exploration rather than treating it as the end of the discussion.

03

Connect Ideas

Consider how the speaker’s perspective connects with other experiences, public decisions and issues affecting the community.

03

Conversations that matter

Public Issues Look Different When We Hear More Than One Perspective.

Think City’s Speaker Series can explore subjects that influence civic life, public understanding and the strength of our communities.

01

Civic Engagement

Public participation, democratic institutions, community decision-making and the ways people can engage with civic life.

02

Human Rights

Equality, inclusion, accessibility and the conditions people need to participate fully in their communities.

03

Sustainability

Environmental responsibility, climate resilience and choices communities face as they plan for the future.

04

Media Literacy

Information quality, critical thinking, public narratives and the challenge of navigating a complex media environment.

04

From presentation to conversation

Hear. Question. Reflect. Continue.

The strongest speaker-led learning does not ask an audience to simply accept what it hears. It gives people enough context to think, question and continue learning after the session ends.

01

Hear

Listen to an informed perspective that introduces useful knowledge, context or experience.

02

Question

Identify what deserves clarification, challenge or deeper exploration.

03

Reflect

Consider how the ideas connect to other perspectives, experiences and public decisions.

04

Continue

Carry the questions and new understanding into future conversations and civic learning.

05

Have a perspective to share?
